We had some excitement at the house yesterday. Our new neighbor agreed to splitting the cost of a tree company to take down a huge dead tree that was threatening her house and our house. The last storm we had threw down a giant limb into our yard and with all the work we've put into our house, we wanted that tree gone. Our street was closed down for a few hours yesterday to cut down the tree. Check out some photos and videos below!

Mark and I don't often eat at our kitchen table. We like to sit ourselves at the island on our stools and chow down. However, we've been noticing that as company visits, our kitchen table chairs were beginning to wear down, putting our guests at risk for falling on their rears. We took our time on the hunt, trying to find something that would spark our interest. Low and behold we found four chairs that were selling for $4 each. Part metal, part wood, we thought these chairs looked like a project that would fit right in with our "restore" decor. We took these green chairs with light wood seats and made a few changes. Mark stained the seats of the chairs to a darker color and I spray painted the metal black. These chairs look as good as new AND look like a match made in heaven for our kitchen table!

The fourth chair is stationed in the living room, we bring it in when reinforcements are needed. This was such a fun and easy project and I loved that we were able to bring these cool chairs back to life.

Spring is finally here and so are our new projects! Mark and I went to Wolf Hill Home and Garden in Ipswich on Tuesday afternoon. They sell Cambridge Paving Stones and we wanted to see some selections up close for the patio in our backyard. We chose square onyx paving stones for the border and Toffee Onyx Lite for the rest of the patio. The stones were delivered on Friday and today our patio went in! Check out the pictures below of the process:

February vacation is finally here! We are 30 days away from Spring, and we are really feeling the winter chill now. The wind chill is unreal, and the snow just keeps coming. We recently had one of our old trunks (left to us upon buying the house) re-done into a side table for our living room. Check out the difference! The old trunks looked like:

Here is the finished product of one of the trunks we chose:

We had a nice piece of glass made to fit the top of the trunk and we now use it as a side table in our living room. We love that this trunk was used by the previous owner and her family on trips (we have the luggage tags to prove it). We plan on restoring more trunks as we can manage to do so.

We recently acquired this piece from craigslist:

It is perfect for storing winter accessories as well as Moxie's belongings.

Today we celebrated my mom's birthday at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury. This was the perfect setting for a birthday lunch on a cold day. The fire was lit and the meal was delicious! Happy Birthday Mom!

Happy New Year!

We can't believe how fast 2013 flew by! We have had a great year in our house and my new job as a preschool teacher is working out well. I had the longest winter vacation I've ever had and I loved every minute of it. I was supposed to go back to school last Thursday but thanks to the "Hercules" snowstorm, I had an extra two days of vacation. I read two books and have fallen in love with the Marblehead Public Library. I had fun with two of my new friends in town as we sipped wine at the Harbor Light Inn down in old town. We sat by the fire in big comfy chairs, something I would totally be up for regularly!

We celebrated the holidays in Needham and North Reading visiting family and eating great food as always. Our dog, Moxie, celebrated her first Christmas with us and we are so thankful to have her. We think about her spending last Christmas in a shelter in Arkansas and how content she seems as she settled into life with us here.

One of my resolutions this year is to be more active on our blog. I want to take more pictures and continue to create memories to look back on. We have many projects coming up this spring that I will share with you here. For now, here are some pictures from today. My dad gave us a bird feeder for Christmas and we noticed the bird food was disappearing but hadn't seen any birds. Today we finally saw them, the word is out and the birds are here! I snapped some photos of the birds and a few of Moxie (because really, how could I not). Until next time!
